Saturday 10th August
It was a game of much anticipation and nerves. The Gloucester senior mens soccer team travelled to Omaru park Taree on Saturday to test themselves worthy of second place on the table.
The Wildcats started strong, dominating possession and couldn't seem to do much wrong. They scored early off a well-planned corner, playing it short for a better angle, the second player was not picked up and there strategy was rewarded. The Scorps fought on holding Taree for the most part. Josh Anniwell was exceptional in goals stopping any attempt by Taree and commanding his area well. Gloucester saw some momentum go there way towards the end of the first half but could not find that well placed final pass.
The Scorps started better in the second half after a rearrangement of some key players but still struggled with their passing game, only after large switches of play could they break free of Taree's high energy defense and utilise players like Kayden Schumann or Kelly Groves to drive forward in space.
After a prolonged period of Taree possession and about 10min before full time the Wildcats scored once again from a corner set piece.
Scorps never put their head down, fighting on stronger until the full time whistle. Final score 2-0 Taree.
Man of the Match: Kayden Schumann
Gloucester remain equal 2nd on points and third on the table due to goal difference.
The Scorps play Tinonee Eagles at home this Saturday at 1.15pm.

Saturday 3rd August
The Gloucester senior men's soccer team are positioning themselves well on the table with finals football coming fast.
The Scorps played Lansdowne Lions on Saturday at Tinonee.
Gloucester began the game strong but quickly succumbed to Lansdowne's well positioned and highly accurate midfield. Plays were constantly broken down in the final third by both teams but it was Gloucester who scored first through Josh Anniwell when he managed a high acrobatic leap, just beating the keeper making good contact on the ball at close range.
Lansdowne responded well and appeared to maintain at least 60% possession throughout the first half. They finished the first half strongly and were rewarded a goal when the Scorps keeper Brad Piwowarski watched a long-range effort and thought the ball was heading out, unfortunately it was heading just inside the post.
The second half saw Gloucester tighten up somewhat, mostly improving in the midfield, winning the loose ball and making better use of their quick midfield players. Unfortunately Gloucesters left back, Matthew Trudgeon suffered a collision while defending. He was taken by Ambulance to Manning base where they discovered broken ribs and a punctured lung. He is now doing well and we wish him a fast recovery.
The Scorps powered on scoring three goals in quick succession and enjoying most of the football being played in the Lions half. Lansdowne and Gloucester both managed two late goals with the final score being 5-2 to Gloucester.
Joshua Anniwell managed 2 goals, kayden Schumann 1, along with Jimmy Breakwell and Drew Grierson.
man of the Match - Josh Anniwell
Thankyou supporters and we hope to see you at Taree for our next game vs Taree Wildcats next Saturday at 3pm.

Saturday 28th July
Well it was a week of great anticipation, nerves, heartache and finally jubilation.
The Gloucester men's senior soccer team were taken down a notch on Wednesday night when they took on top of the table and last years winners, Wingham Warriors.
The Warriors were out for revenge after loosing to the Scorps in the very first game of the season. Wingham dominated the majority of the first half scoring twice after periods of immense pressure. Gloucester found it difficult to connect and were repeatedly overwhelmed by defenders in the final third. The scorps saw there best chances of the game at the end of the first half but it wasn't enough. The second half played out much the same with Wingham finding each other easily, and the repeated pressure kept Gloucester mostly defending. Congratulations to Aiden Coombes, the Scorps centre back looked unbeatable and had a great game. Final score 4-0 to Wingham.
From the low of Wednesday night to the highs of Saturday. Saturday was the Gloucester Scorpions official sponsors day and the clubs travelling teams did not disappoint.
Congrats to the under 12's who won there game against Great Lakes Vikings, 5-1.
The seniors played straight after and it was the local derby against Wallamba FC.
The Scorps were able to put the recent loss behind them, controlling the majority of the match. With shots on goal coming from all positions, even Gloucesters centre back Isaac McClure found himself putting in a great volley from inside the box. Wallamba's keeper had a fantastic game and deserves recognition for his performance, repeatedly blocking shots from all angles.
Owen Tomlinson, Gloucesters 'Man of the Match' played out of his skin, scoring a hat trick for the first time this season.
Jimmy Breakwell was tireless as usual, making some great runs into the final third and was as a result scored his first goal of the season. Brad Piwowarski played his best game yet being heavily involved in the box which ultimately led to a goal scored by Corbin Predebon. Final score 5-0.
The senior Scorps sit 3rd on the table and are looking forward to the run of games leading into the finals.
To our major sponsor 'Turner and Freeman Lawyers we thankyou for your ongoing support and appreciate you attending our sponsors day.
The senior men's play Lansdowne Lions next at Lansdowne on Saturday the 3rd at 3pm.

Three games in seven days and the Gloucester senior mens soccer team have come away with all the points on offer!
Thursday night saw the Scorps take on Tuncurry Tigers again. You may remember that it was Tuncurry that ended our undefeated run a few weeks ago, and so the Scorps were out for revenge. Tuncurry started strong. Gloucester suffered through too many simple mistakes but slowly managed to grow in confidence. Tuncurry scored first but Gloucester responded quickly bringing it back even. Shane Doyle was outstanding in the defensive midfielder position winning much of the loose ball and contrrolled his area well. Tuncurry scored again, just like before Gloucester almost instantly made it 2 - 2 at half time.
The second half saw a couple of yellow cards as frustration boiled over. Gloucesters defensive structure strengthened and kept Tuncurry well outside their 18 yard box. The Scorps eventually stole the game with two more goals as Tuncurry began to tire.
Drew Grierson who played centre mid worked tirelessly throughout the entire game and as a result won "man of the Match for the second time this year. 50 hours later on Saturday, Gloucester took on Great Lakes Vikings at Boronia Park.
Gloucester knew this one wasn't going to be easy!
The Vikings are a youthful team that excel with their passing game and it was no different on Saturday. In the early minutes Corbin Predebon created some great chances but just couldn't quite get the shot right. Lakes moved the ball well often dominating the midfield possession. As a result due to the increasing pressure the Vikings were rewarded with a penalty in the box. They scored but Gloucester didn't seem fazed, pushing on and gaining their own momentum. Drew Grierson scored soon after., chipping the keeper in a cheeky fashion after an impressive run.
One all at half time, the second half was an absolute nail biter. Josh Anniwell, the Scorps keeper was incredible keeping Lakes from scoring.

SCORPS WIN! The Gloucester senior mens Soccer team have broken free of their recent slump and bad luck / weather.
Saturdays game against Halliday Barracudas had to be the toughest game played yet. It was a strong physical battle with plenty of controversial decisions and drama. Hallidays started strong, controlling the ball but it didn't take long for the Scorpions to get into the game. The Barracudas scored first from a corner t close range. Josh Anniwell didn't have enough time to react. Despite an early goal, Gloucester fought on gaining more control as the game progressed. The possession was determined by the midfielders from both sides, due to the quick pace of the game large pockets of space would open up on both sides in the centre which the midfielders quickly exploited..
Kayden Schumann was given the strikers position and didn't disappoint, scoring before half time.
The second half was anyones! Gloucester kept up their fight winning the majority of the loose balls and quickly gaining back possession when lost thanks to the trio of Shane Doyle, Drew Grierson and Jimmy Breakwell. With more possession came more chances and again it was Kayden Schumann who managed to find the back of the net.
Gloucester held it together until the end finishing the game with a 2 - 1 win!
The Scorpions take on Tuncurry at home this Thursday night at 7pm, then it's over to Boronia park on the 13th to play Great Lakes Vikings at 2pm.
Big thank you to our supporters! UP THE SCORPS!

Saturday 23rd June
The senior mens Gloucester Soccer teams undefeated run has unfortunately come to an end. The weather was miserable over at Tuncurry Tigers home ground on Saturday, raining for half the match.
Our buys started strong and most of the first half looked fairly even with decent chances coming from both teams. It was Kayden Schumann who broke the deadlock, a scramble in the box and the ball managed to land perfectly in front of him for a quick tap in. Gloucester lead at half time 1 -0
Changes were made at half time and unfortunately this is where the wheels started to fall off.
Tuncurry successfully took the game away with 5 goals scored in the second half.
Despite the impressive efforts by Drew Grierson, Owen Tomlinson, Josh Anniwell and Jimmy Breakwell who la had multiple chances in the second half, Gloucester just couldn't get the breakthrough that they needed to rally around. Hats off to the Tuncurry Tigers goalkeeper, just too good on the day. We look forward to meeting Tuncurry again at home on the 11th July at 7pm.

Saturday 15th June
The Mens Senior Soccer team was back in action on Saturday after almost 3 weeks without a game due to wet weather and a postponed game. The match was played against Tinonee Eagles at Tinonee. We all agreed before the game that this was going to be a tough match, the Scorpions were without key players, Drew Grierson and Kayden Schumann in the centre of the park and unfortunately it did cause some connection issues.
The first half played out with decent chances from both sides. Tinonee managed to move the ball accurately and effectively but could not find the target. Owen Tomlinson was outstanding in creating his own chances down the right side, yet he too struggled with the final third.
Nil all at half time, the second half played out much the same until Josh Anniwell managed to break through Tinonee's last line of defence to put the Scorpions in front with a well placed shot. Tinonee immediately lifted and responded well, it was only 10 minutes later that Tinonee scored, leveling the score to 1-1. Gloucester managed to hang on until full time finishing with a draw.
The Scorpions head to Tuncurry this Saturday to take on Tuncurry Tigers at 1:15pm

UP THE SCORPIONS! Our mens senior soccer team have made it six games undefeated with a 4-1 win over Lansdowne Lions on Saturday.
The Scorpions started strong and were rewarded early with a goal by Josh Anniwell. Josh has returned to the Scorpions this year and is loving every second of it. Josh played most of the game in the centre of the park and provided some much needed energy to his team, along with Kayden Schumann, they were both positively driving the Scorpions all game. Lansdowne responded quickly though from a well placed shot from outside the 18 yard box, beating Brad Piwowarski, the Scorpions keeper.
It wasn't long before half time that Scorpions leading goal scorer, forward Corbin Predebon found his shooting foot making it 2-1. Once again the Scorpions looked the better side in the second half, stringing together some delightful combination plays to work their way up the field to score two more goals. Giving both Josh Anniwell and Corbin Predebon a brace.
Noteworthy performances also came from Austin Dickson at right back who's game is seeing some substantial improvements of late and Owen Tomlinson, who is proving to be an unstoppable force upfront for the Scorpions.
It's a top of the table clash this week on Saturday 1st of June in Gloucester, 1.15pm for the Scorpions against Taree Wildcats. We would love to see you down there to cheer on our winning team for this big test.

It's another 3 points secured for the Gloucester Senior Mens team!
On Saturday our boys travelled to Nabiac for the local derby against Wallamba. With last years loss in mind, Gloucester were looking to get back at our closest opponents and continue our flying start to the season. It wasn't long before Owen Tomlinson made a driving run out of midfield, beating the keeper with a slow shot close to his near post. Wallamba responded well pressing deep in our half for extended periods and were rewarded when Aiden Coombes (Gloucester centre back) hand balled on the edge of the box. That being his second yellow of the game he was sent off, reducing the Scorpions to 10 men for the remainder of the game. Wallamba scored from the spot penalty making it 1-1. Gloucester again got the upper hand just before half time through newcomer Seaton McKeons left foot. Gloucester was able to run away with the game in the second half with 2 goals to Corbin Predebon, and 1 to Kayden Schumann. The Scorpions are now undefeated in 4 competition games and 5 games overall. They would love to see your support at home on Saturday the 25th against Lansdowne Lions, kick off at 1.15pm.

The Gloucester Scorpions Mens senior team continue their amazing start to the season. To date, undefeated with a win against Wingham Warriors, Draw to Hallidays Point Barracudas and another win vs Great Lakes Vikings on the weekend.
It was a hard fought game, nil all at half time and unfortunately the Scorpions Jyah Bowden suffered a game ending injury 10 minutes before half time while saving what looked to be a sure goal for the Vikings.
Kayden Schumann almost broke the deadlock late in the first half with a well placed volley which hit the top bar.
The boys were focused entering the second half and after a strong enduring midfield battle the Scorpions were rewarded when Corbin Predebon found the back of the net from a deflected shot.
Our midfield began to dominate in the second half with Drew Grierson, Josh Anniwell, Owen Tomlinson, Kayden Schumann and Kelly Groves all combining well to create better opportunities of which Corbin Predebon was able to capitalise on, getting his second before the final whistle.
They have a well deserved rest this week due to a bye.

As usual the FMNC scheduled a tough first game for our Gloucester Mens Senior Team this year and I'm very proud to say that they secured their first 3 points of the season. Winning 2-1 to Wingham Warriors, last years premiers. Standout performances came from all over the park, Isaac McClure awarded 'Man of the Match" was unbeatable along with Aiden Coombes as centre and fullbacks. James (Jimmy) Breakwell was brilliant in the centre mid field, with help from newcomer Shane Doyle, Wingham struggled to initiate their skillful plays.
Goals came from another welcomed newcomer, young Rory Gambrill and Corbin Predebon who we are very happy to say has returned to the team after a 4 year hiatus.
I couldn't be more proud of the effort the boys put into pre season training and just how well that has paid off.
Bring on Hallidays Point!
